Sports Performance Training in NYC

Sports Performance Training at ADPT by Cynergy

We teach sports performance training to adult athletes of various ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. We do this by teaching them how to move so that they gain a better understanding of how their bodies are meant to function within their specific sport. Starting with a performance assessment, our therapists use a 3-step plan to create an individualized program with customized coaching that works. We consider everything from the athlete’s position, team dynamics, player utilization, and even minutes played when pioneering the athlete’s program. All the aspects of an athlete’s program will play a role in improving the athlete’s mindset, improving athletic qualities, reducing the risk of injury, and ultimately optimizing performance.

These assessments are designed from the most advanced orthopedic, physiology, biomechanics, and biopsychosocial models that have been deemed valid and reliable.

Sports Performance Training - The ADPT by Cynergy 3-Step Sports Performance Plan:

1. Performance Assessment

Everything starts with the assessment. Every athletic profile should be relevant to the sport and position. The assessment will provide an understanding of the athlete's current physical capabilities.

We have to know where you are starting from athletically to give you the best chance of success.

2. Individualized Programming

Individual programs will always have the best success. We take an integrated systems approach that considers all underpinning strength and power qualities, movement qualities, relevant environmental factors, and associated cardiovascular demands and unique risk factors of the sport and position.

That is key to developing a program that works!

3. Customized Coaching

Every athlete moves and learns differently, and therefore needs to be coached differently.

We understand the principles of motor learning, skill acquisition, and the processes involved to effectively coach in order to accelerate learning and performance.

We focus on who we are coaching, how we are coaching, and what it is that we are coaching on.

What Are the Six Components of Sports Performance Training?

No matter what sport you play, in order to better improve your overall sports performance, the following six components are the key factors that your training plan will focus on improving:

  1. Agility
  2. Coordination
  3. Balance
  4. Power
  5. Reaction Time
  6. Speed

What Are the Different Types of Sports Performance Training?

Because every athlete has a unique physicality, set of skills, and sport, it’s important to undergo our performance assessment so that we can best identify which type of sports performance training is best for you. The different types of sports performance training are:

Continuous Training

Continuous training, or steady-state training, focuses on longer periods of exercise with very few rest periods. This type of training keeps the heart rate constant to encourage cardiovascular endurance. If you are an athlete looking to lose weight or someone who participates in marathons, triathlons, or bike rides, this training can benefit you.

Circuit Training

Circuit training is a great way to condition the body. It typically involves endurance training, resistance training, exercises, and high-intensity aerobic workouts to work a diverse group of muscles that can increase both strength and endurance.

Interval Training

Interval training involves short periods of high-intensity workouts alternated with periods of rest and recovery. This helps the body improve its recovery rate, allowing for faster and efficient workout sessions. It can also help avoid the risk of overtraining and injury.

Fartlek Training

Fartklek training combines elements of continuous and interval training while changing the environment or speed of training as it is happening. This can help improve an athlete’s adaptability to different speeds, movements, and physical situations.

Flexibility or Mobility Training

Flexibility training focuses on expanding the range of motion in a joint or set of joints. Common exercises like stretching and warming up as part of this type of training can benefit gymnasts and dancers.

Weight Training

Weight training is the primary form of strength training that allows for the strengthening of the skeletal muscles. Through the use of weighted bars, dumbbells, and weight stacks, weight training can not only increase strength but also prevent bone loss.

Plyometric Training

Plyometric training is also known as jump training and includes exercises focused on muscle extension and swift contraction. This technique is beneficial to martial artists, volleyball players, and sprinters.

Speed and Agility Training

Being quick is not required of all sports. However, timeliness and agility are important in almost every sport. Speed and agility training helps athletes reprogram their neuromuscular system to improve multi-directional movements in a fast, adaptable way.
