Giuseppe Demera, PT, DPT began his academic career at CUNY Brooklyn College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. During his time in Brooklyn College his mother began to suffer from debilitating knee pain which prompted him to seek physical therapy for her pain to help get her back on her feet. He was amazed by the skill and influence physical therapy had in his mother’s journey to regain her function. He knew then and there that he wanted to pursue his Doctorate in Physical Therapy to help heal people.
Having dealt with various orthopedic injuries, Giuseppe understands the challenges faced during the recovery process. As such, he strongly believes in empowering his patients by delivering clear education on their condition, providing tools to assist with recovery, and incorporating the Biopsychosocial approach in treatment to optimize results.
Giuseppe is an avid endurance athlete, focusing on Running, Cycling, and Triathlons. He is a part of the Dashing Whippets running group. He participated in the New York City Marathon 2021 and ran at the 5th avenue mile at a finishing time of 5:16. He enjoys working with runners and triathletes in order to help them regain their ability to get back into the sport, but also improve their performance and reduce their chances of injury.
Giuseppe is also an practitioner in the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira under the worldwide organization ABADA-Capoeria (Associação Brasileira de Apoio e Desenvolvimento da Arte-Capoeira). He has competed at both national and international levels, representing the United States during the 2019 Jogos Mundias. He also instructs and performs in cultural exhibitions throughout New York City as a member of The A.C.E (Active Cultural Education), teaching and promoting Capoeira at universities, inner city schools and various educational institutions.
